Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

TAE40116 - Release 1

The TAE training package (Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment) was recently updated from the TAE40110 to the TAE40116. We are very excited to be able to offer it to you, in partnership with Healthy Business Training Academy (RTO #: 30831 – the RTO issuing the certificate), in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart, Perth, Gold Coast and some of our North Queensland locations, including Cairns, and Mackay.

About this Course

This nationally recognised qualification is designed for those that have relevant industry skills and knowledge and are looking to actively work in the vocational education sector, or to be a trainer and assessor in their workplace, teaching accredited or non-accredited training. The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the very latest Certificate IV Qualification of the TAE training package. Successful completion will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be able to effectively train and assess students in adult education (in the VET sector) in Australia, as well as teach you generic training skills that will help empower you to work with your staff in a supervisory role.

Available online and face-to-face at training locations, the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment course focuses on the real-world skills that a trainer and assessor will need for understanding the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) landscape, and how to truly be an impactful trainer and assessor within your job role.

We offer course delivery through our training locations in Hobart, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Gold Coast as well as some Queensland regional centres including Cairns, and Mackay.

Note, for international students – we are not CRICOS registered, please check your visa requirements for enrolment. We cannot accept international students who are on a student visa.

  • What is the difference between the TAE40110 and the TAE40116?

The TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been superseded by TAE40116.

The key notable differences between the TAE40110 and the TAE40116 are documented below:

    • The qualification packaging rules of the TAE40116 have changed.  There are now 9 core units, of which the TAELLN411 and the TAEASS502 are included.  There is now only 1 elective.
    • Two of the units, TAEASS401 and TAEASS403 are now not equivalent to the old TAEAS401B/TAEASS403B so, for those students upgrading from the old TAE40110 – gap training will be required.

Another important point to note is that the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment places greater emphasis on the candidate’s ability to design and conduct effective assessment.

With these new additions come more practical tasks and candidates will get a lot more practice designing, developing, using and reviewing assessment tools, participants will also graduate with a far greater understanding of the assessment process, and be more confident in the workplace in this area.

  • Completion Timeframes

The Australian Qualifications Framework advises what they believe is a good indication of how long different courses should take.  These are called the Volume of Learning Indicators, and they suggest that a Certificate 4 level qualification should take 600-1200 hours.

In our experience, every person is different, and so the time it takes one person to complete is different to the next person.  This largely depends on each person’s experience, dedication to their studies, and their other personal commitments.

Students will have up to 18 months to complete the TAE40116 course, however students may be able to complete within 6 months, dependent on their individual schedules and commitment to completing assessment tasks.

Our suggested Volume of Learning for this qualification is 6 months – 18 months   (600 – 1800 hours).

As a learner, the following is the amount of time you should expect to commit:

Hours of supervised instruction (40 hrs per week):  80 hours
Hours of online tutorials (40 hrs per week):  80 hours
Hours of unsupervised activities (46 hrs per unit):  460 hours
Hours of assessment (20 hrs per unit):  200 hours
    Total hours: 820 hours

  • Full Course Delivery Methods

Blended + 5-day Intensive Face to Face Workshop

This course requires participants to complete pre and post course work.  This includes self-paced reading, research, presentation preparation, and answering of short answer questions.  This method enables you to complete a good portion of the work required, to give you a head-start on completing the remainder by distance learning

You will complete a range of assessment tasks, group activities, and 1 of 3 presentations, within the 5-day Workshop.  You will need to either attend a 1 day presentation workshop (included in your course fee) to deliver the 2 remaining presentations, or you can film yourself making these presentations in front of an audience of 8 people in your own time.

    Support options:

    • Monthly online live Q&A support sessions
    • Recorded online tutorials
    • Access to a trainer via email and phone

Blended + 10-day Face to Face Course

This option for the TAE40116 will encompass two 5-day face to face workshops (Part 1 and Part 2).  All workshops run from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Upon enrolment, you will book into both the Part 1 and Part 2 workshops (it is recommended that Part 2 be no earlier than 2 months following Part 1).

There will be self-paced reading, research, presentation preparation, and answering of short-answer questions, required outside of the face to face component.

    Support options:

    • Monthly online live Q&A support sessions
    • Recorded online tutorials
    • Access to a trainer via email and phone

For details of which units are covered during the above Workshops, please see the Units of Competency tab on our website.

In between each Workshop, and following the course, you will also have trainer support to guide you along your journey.

    Distance Learning

This course is also offered by distance learning.  Participants will ideally be working in an RTO environment, with access to a TAE Diploma qualified individual for supervision.  You will also need to film 3 presentations (2 presentation will need to be in front of a group of 8 participants).  Conducting of assessments must be observed by a TAE Diploma qualified Assessor within your workplace (the Assessor must be approved by RAM), or can be completed via live video link with a RAM Trainer and Assessor.

Alternatively to filming the presentations and assessment of candidates, participants can complete the work from home, and then book in to do the major presentation and final assessment-conducting at a 2-day Presentation Workshop, for an additional $200.  You will still have 2 presentations that will need to be filmed from home, and submitted prior to your attendance at this Presentation Workshop.

    Support options:

    • Monthly online live Q&A support sessions
    • Recorded online tutorials
    • Access to a trainer via email and phone

    Upgrades

Upgrade is NOT required until April 2019, however naturally it is recommended.  Many employers will now be encouraging their employees to attain the latest TAE40116 qualification to meet workplace demands.

Key things to note: 2 units have been added to the TAE40116 (TAELLN411 and Assessment Diploma unit TAEASS502), and another 2 assessment units are NOT equivalent, that require gap training.

Please see the Upgrade tabs below for further information on this option.

  • Full TAE40110 to TAE40116 Upgrade

If you already hold a TAE40110, and wish to upgrade to obtain a TAE40116 qualification, the following will apply.

    • TAEASS502
    • TAEASS401 – gap training

Students will gain competency in the non-equivalent units through gap training conducted in this Workshop.

This option cannot be done by distance learning.
