About this Course
The Certificate II in Security Operations / Crowd Control is the course that you must complete in order to apply for your Queensland security licence (unarmed). First aid and the modules to get your crowd controller licence are also included in this course — free!
Are you interested in a career change? Or maybe you just want to supplement your current income with some extra work? This is how you get a security license in QLD. Gain the knowledge and practical skills to work effectively as a security officer in shopping centres, nightclubs, events, building sites, patrol and more. Through a combination of theory and practical training, including role-plays and defence techniques, you will learn to perform the responsibilities of a security guard in a lawful, ethical and highly effective manner. This security licencing course allows you to work in major QLD cities, such as Brisbane, with a Class 1 Security Licence Queensland.
While there are no pre-requisites to complete this course, participants must be 18 years of age at the time of applying for their security licence. You will also need to complete a criminal history check as part of the licence application process. For more information on the licence application process, please see the Office of Fair Trading’s website.
NOTE: If you are eligible for the Certificate 3 guarantee government funding, you may be able to complete the Certificate III in Security Operations, which covers all of the units required for an Unarmed & Crowd licence but at a Certificate III level — for as little as $14. Please click here for more information. Eligibility & conditions apply.
This course can also be run at your premises for group bookings, anywhere within Queensland.
Note, for international students – we are not CRICOS registered, and therefore cannot accept international students who are on a student visa.

- 6-day face-to-face course with external studies, at Southport on the Gold Coast, Woolloongabba in Brisbane, and Clontarf in North Brisbane
- Our Clontarf location offers night courses as well – please call for details
- We also offer an additional face to face Q&A Session to all enrolled Security students once a month, to assist with any questions students may have when completing home studies.
All of our delivery methods involve pre and post-course work from home.
Your pre-course work will include readings, and watching security related videos.
In the face to face component, your trainer will teach you through activities, case scenarios, and practicals, the underpinning knowledge that you will need in order to complete your final assessment. The difference between the 6 day and the 10 day course, is the amount of repetition and emphasis given to each subject.
Upon completion of your face to face course, you will be given access to recorded tutorials, guided learning activities, and your final assessment. You have up to 6 months to complete and return your assessment.
If you already have accredited certificates for the practical component (such as a first aid certificate), you may be able to receive a credit transfer for these units, which means your classroom time may be reduced.
The total duration of the course depends on the individual student, and their personal circumstances and other commitments. As a guide/average, the total number of hours is made up of 345 hours of training (both in class and externally), followed by approximately 250-300 hours to complete the final assessment (externally).
Interstate students: if applying for a licence via mutual recognition, e.g. NSW 1A/C security licence, please check with your state’s issuing body on any local requirements they may have.
Adding additional functions to your security licence
For anyone who wishes to add either Cash-in-Transit and/or Bodyguard functions to their security providers licence in Queensland: once you have completed your Certificate II in Security Operations, you can then either complete the 8-day Certificate III in Security Operations course (plus external studies), covering the units for these functions, as well as Monitoring and Management/Supervisory subjects (Certificate 3 Guarantee funding may be available for eligible participants), or you can complete 1-2 day course depending on the function from as low as $200. Please check our website for further information or call us on 1300 328 500.
Crowd Control Recertification course
For security guards who already have their QLD licence, and only need to complete 1 or 2 modules (usually CPPSEC3002A and/or CPPSEC3013A) in order to achieve their licence renewal, these modules are completed on the 5th day of the full Certificate II in Security Operations course. Cost is $125 for 1 module, or $150 for both modules. This course is run on the 5th day of the full Certificate II in Security Operations course in Woolloongabba and Southport (usually a Friday). You will be required to complete the theory component of this course prior to attending class. Please see Upcoming Course Dates on this page.
For application to obtain your QLD security licence you must contact the Office of Fair Trading and submit your application with the certificates achieved with RAM Training Services. The Office of Fair Trading will charge you an additional amount for your license (approx $500 for a 1 year multi-function licence), and will conduct a criminal history check and fingerprinting prior to approving your application. The fingerprinting must be done at a QLD police station, and the appointment for this cannot be booked until your application has been submitted and the Office of Fair Trading then sends you a letter with a barcode needed for the appointment.
This licence application process can take anywhere between 2 and 6 weeks.
If you are interested in later on applying for a security licence in another Australian state (eg NSW), by mutual recognition – we recommend that you check your local issuing body’s (eg SLED – NSW Police) requirements. Our courses are for QLD security licences only.
