Gain Your Next Employment Opportunity By Upskilling TodayTweet
When it comes to finding employment opportunities, you’re often faced with fierce competition. With so many people looking to gain work and only a limited amount of jobs on offer, it can be tough and the odds don’t always swing in your favour. If you want to stand out from the other applicants, you need to make sure you have something they don’t – that’s where formal qualifications can come in handy!
While having the skills and experience for the job is of course important, it may not always be enough. When employers are presented with a number of equally passionate and capable applicants, it may just be that their deciding factor comes down to what qualifications you possess. Imagine all the opportunities you are missing out on, simply because you haven’t taken the time to upskill yet?!
Here at RAM Training Services, we help our students upskill so that they are not only able to gain employment, but also so they have a larger range of opportunities available to them.
There are a number of benefits if you choose to undergo further study, including:
- Increased confidence
- Gaining of new skills
- Recognition of existing skills with a formal qualification
- Increased employment opportunities
- Making important contacts within the industry
To highlight the impact that completing additional training can have on your career, we recently sat down and spoke to one of our past students, John Melhem, about the success he saw after attaining his Cert III in Hospitality with us.
Prior to completing his training with us, John had been unsuccessful in finding a job for a period of time. He was skilled in the hospitality industry, having worked in similar jobs previously, however he had no formal qualifications and found that he was being passed over in favour of those who did.
“I had approached quite a number of venues previously, not only for jobs but also for work experience – anything to get my foot in the door – but I was continuously passed over.
I had plenty of experience within the industry, but I thought it might be a good idea to refresh my memory and skills, so I decided to undertake my Certificate III in Hospitality with RAM Training.
I initially thought the course was just going to be a memory refresher, as I already had a hospitality background, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself learning new and valuable skills! In particular, I loved that I was able to obtain my RSA, First Aid and Food Safety certificates, all of which are important assets within my industry.”
For John, it wasn’t just learning new skills that helped him on his journey to employment, but also the valuable contacts we were able to provide to him. Not long after obtaining his qualifications, John was successful in obtaining a role at his local Surf Club.
“I was very fortunate in that the team at RAM were able to connect me to relevant opportunities within my field. They secured me work experience at the Surf Club and just a few days into my shifts I was offered a job!
Honestly, all I need was that opportunity to prove myself to an employer, and I am so grateful RAM was able to give me that. Without having the opportunity to demonstrate my newly learned skills, I think I would still be searching for work right now.
I’m now an all-rounder at the club, which gives me the opportunity to work in a range of different areas, from serving customers, to being a kitchen hand and even trying my hand at the bar!
Every single staff member, admin and trainer I came into contact with at RAM were helpful, patient and all round great people who offered me a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow.”
